Does ChatGPT store my conversations permanently?

Active conversations are stored indefinitely by default. Deleted chats are purged within 30 days. Temporary Chat mode prevents storage entirely. Unless you disable 'Improve the model for everyone' in Settings > Data Controls, your conversations also train OpenAI's models.

Can my employer see what I type into Copilot?

For Microsoft 365 Copilot (enterprise), conversation data is discoverable through Microsoft Purview and subject to your organization's retention policies. Consumer Copilot data is anonymized but may be used for training. Your employer can't see consumer Copilot usage directly, but enterprise usage is logged.

Is there an AI assistant that doesn't train on my data?

Apple Intelligence processes data on-device or via Private Cloud Compute with ephemeral processing — no training on user data. For maximum control, local alternatives like Ollama (163K+ GitHub stars) and LM Studio run entirely on your hardware with zero data leaving your device.
